Dear ukulele player,

Lately I’ve being worried (although just for a while) about the future of ukulele communities that were built on propietary social media networks, I’ve taken action and set up a Mastodon instance where ukulele aficionados can find a safe place to share and talk.

That’s the new https://ukers.eu

Hosted in Europe. No tracking, no surveillance, no nazis.

Mastowhat?

Short explanation: something like Twitter circa 2008.

A longer one: Mastodon is a software (free software!) that builds on open internet standards (ActivityPub) to allow people to interact using short-form text posts.

There are quite a few interesting points in how this works. Here’s my favourite one:

There is no company behind it trying to make money from your data.

Also:

Would you join? Send a mail to exes-expel-woof@duck.com (it’ll get delivered to my personal address) to get an invitation.

These are the rules at our ukers instance. Summary: no transphobia/homophobia, no nazis, no discrimination, no illegal activities. Conversations outside the ukulele world are welcome. Post in English, Spanish, German, or whatever your mother language is.

Join us! We’ll have fun! This is my profile.

Spring sale at The Ukulele Bookshop

Starting today, The Ukulele Bookshop is running a Spring sale. Each and every digital ukulele publication is offered with a 15% discount. No coupons required.

If you’re still missing any of my books (have you heard about Songs Mathilda Taught Me or For Four Fingers?) this is a good moment to acquire some new scores.

Switching mail list provider

As part of my process of avoiding privacy invading services, I’ve left my long time provider for newsletters. This one is brought to you via Listmonk, a self-hosted newsletter and mailing list manager.

So, this time I’ll be double happy if you reply to this mail and say hello!

Have a nice weekend,
Choan Gálvez
