It’s been a while since I released my two first albums of solo ukulele music in 2018. The next one, which has been in the works for years, is coming very soon! As soon as May 1st!

If you enjoyed Lullabies for Astronauts, I guess you’ll also love Dream Big, Little Monster.

The concept is the same. A collection of instrumental soothing music for solo ukulele. In high G tuning. Served along a sheet music book with the tablatures.

I’ve been videotaping some rehearsals, you can watch/hear the playlist for free at Youtube.

A new place for my videos

A few months ago I soft launched The Ukulele Playlist website, a simple web where I’m reposting my ukulele videos. Most of them are sourced from my channel at a privacy respecting PeerTube instance, which allows the site to work tracker free and without cookies.

Brevities for baritone ukulele

Brevities is a collection of short solo pieces for baritone ukulele aimed at the intermediate fingerpicker. In this set I try to profit from the extended range, the sustain, and the resonance that this instrument and its tuning provide.

Styles go from renaissance inspiration to Brazilian choro, melancholic waltzes to exciting ragtime. Check the playlist!

This collection of original pieces for baritone ukulele is a real treat for the soul. I have listened to and played many of Choan’s compositions and I marvel at his ability to create such original, modern and imaginative pieces whilst subtly infusing them at times with a traditional Spanish flavour. These new compositions work beautifully on the baritone ukulele and bring out its warm, rich sound. —Tony Mizen

All the pieces are written for G6 linear tuning and presented in notation and tablature format. Don’t you own a baritone uke? Not an issue: everything is also playable on your low G instrument, just follow the tab!—or treat yourself with that new instrument ;)

Anthology of Alternate Ukulele Tunings - Vol. 1

In this anthology, I propose you to work on a few scordaturas, all of them feasible using a standard low G string set (or low D, if you’re using a baritone). The set of 12 original works includes ragtime and bluesy compositions, habanera stylings, melancholical-optimistic tunes written at the dawn, and a touching elegy. Watch the playlist.

This is a wonderful and very well thought out collection of pieces in alternate tunings. Choan has included some really interesting tunings such as Gsus4, which you don’t come across often. You’ll also find some traditional Hawaiian tunings such as taro patch and wahine. Everything is very clearly notated and these brilliant compositions are an absolute delight to play. —Matt Stead

Lately I’ve being worried (although just for a while) about the future of ukulele communities that were built on propietary social media networks, I’ve taken action and set up a Mastodon instance where ukulele aficionados can find a safe place to share and talk.

Hosted in Europe. No tracking, no surveillance, no nazis.

Mastowhat?

Short explanation: something like Twitter circa 2008.

A longer one: Mastodon is a software (free software!) that builds on open internet standards (ActivityPub) to allow people to interact using short-form text posts.

There are quite a few interesting points in how this works. Here’s my favourite one:

There is no company behind it trying to make money from your data.

Also:

• There is no tracking of usage, nor surveillance mechanisms.
• Users can interact even if their accounts are hosted on different servers.
• Your data is yours and only yours. The software makes it easy for users to switch between servers.
